- BDPA Cleveland SITES Program Video -

SITES is an outreach program from the Cleveland chapter of BDPA, a non-profit organization geared toward the education and advancement of minorities in the area of IT. Our purpose is to expose and train youth in grades 8-12 in the use of technology to stimulate and sustain their interest in science and technology. Students are given an introduction to basic web design and computer concepts. Through team exercises, class and homework assignments, students obtain a better appreciation and understanding of what it takes to build a quality web application. This culminates in June and allows the students to compete on teams at a regional competition against chapters of other cities.

The second half of the season focuses on those students who have excelled in the first portion of training equipping them with additional skills which include working on teams, project management, presentation and oratory skills, advanced problem-solving and time management. With additional training through the end of July the named team of five students prepare to compete on a national level during the BDPA National Conference against registered teams from across the U.S. A second group is identified to attend the youth technology camp, which is held in conjunction to the programming competition.

- IT CORPS Overview -

The BDPA IT Corps began with a response to a challenge given to BDPA by His Excellency, the Ambassador for Ethiopia, Mr. Samuel Assefa, as part of his keynote speech to a dinner audience at the BDPA Annual National Conference, in Washington, D.C. in August of 2007. Mr. Norman R. Mays a long time BDPA member, responded to the challenge by beginning to draft a proposal for the creation of such a corps. Shortly thereafter, he solicited the support and participation of Dr. Ademola (Demo) Solaru. Together they created what is today, the BDPA IT Corps.
